Happy Friday, you guys welcome to the [inaudible] podcast today. I just want to jump right in. So if you're new to a five for Fridays or five minute Fridays, whatever, I'm calling them these days, these are just five minute downloads of things that I've been learning through this week. Ideas that have come to mind, things that I need to get out of my phone notepad. But today I want to come to you and talk about how to be a counterculture leader. And before you up and leave, I want you to hear me out. Our culture is based on this endless cycle of hustle. And of course, there's so much content out there. That's talking about this already, follow your energy and all that stuff. And I've got some bones to pick with that rhetoric, but that's for another episode, which I will likely cover and probably have a little bit here and there, but I want to share something that I learned in this group that I'm in with my church. And it's all about wholehearted living versus a hustle, always needing more, always craving, more type life. And this is this year in particular has been a major push within me to break myself free into wholehearted living. And so this whole message spoke to me so deeply. Our culture is all about it. Functions on a cycle and it's fueled by pride. Pride increases. Our hustle. Pride motivates is the impetus for this never ending hustle, this striving for more. But what it ultimately ends in is shame because we can never fully achieve in this moment. All we could ever desire. And so we find ourselves on this never ending loop of pride, propelling us to hustle, propelling us into shame when we inevitably burn out or fail or give up. And then we begin again because we're so prideful. How could I have failed? I'm going to reject that shame and I'm going to jump right in, prove to myself and prove to everybody else that I can do this thing. It's a loop that never ends. And it's exhausting. There's another loop. And it's the foundation of wholehearted living. And it's a true counterculture cycle that begins with rest. Resting, relaxing being in this moment. Rest is not apathy. Rest is not following your energy. Rest is not stopping because you just want to stop. It's intentional. It's an action. It is fuel for the growth that's required of you and the work that's coming. And that propels you into receiving when you rest and you're in this moment, you can receive creativity. You can receive energy that you need to go out and do. The thing that you're called to do resting is not postponing. Your purpose. Resting is not pushing it back. Resting is fueling your tank. It's an intentional action that you have to go about intentionally in the pride and hustle and shame cycle. You end up resting, but not because it's not a refueling. It's, it's coming up for air to gasp for breath. It's not actually rejuvenating your soul and your body and every cell in your being when you rest and you receive health, wholeness, wealth, growth, creativity, ideas, you can then learn how to be humble. That is the counter culture piece humility. We are so motivated by ego pride shame. We can't listen to anybody else or anyone's ideas because they conflict with our own. We can't abide by anybody else's rules. We can't. Our ego is so flared and it's because we're hurt. It's because we're Pern out. We're tired of pride, fueling us into hustle, fueling us into shame, fueling us into burnout . What we need in this culture and on our teams and in every leader is rest receiving and being humble. So I challenge you today to look for ways to do that. Look for ways to rest intentionally refuel yourself. Look for ways to receive opportunity, to receive grace, to receive love, to receive, to receive fulfillment, to receive connection with another individual and then be humble. And that will propel you further than the hustle cycle ever could . Thanks guys. Thanks for tuning in the joint lead podcast. Be sure to subscribe.
